Pyhä - Luosto National Park is Finland's southernmost large fell area. The area has been inhabited by the Forest Sámi people as well as people from the Stone Age. The beautiful fells are surrounded by large stringbogs and a wonderful, old taiga forest.
During the week, we do four day trips to different parts of the national park and one trip to Souttaja fell. We experience both the open fell and sheltered taiga forests in a beautiful midwinterlight. There is enough light so that we can make 4-5 hour trips every day.
We use sliding snowshoes on this trip: hybrids of skis and snowshoes developed by the Finnish company OAC. The sliding snowshoes look like short skis and have a wide synthetic fur attached to the bottom, which makes it easier to move forward. On the downhill you can slide on the snow, which you can't do with normal snowshoes. The binding is suitable for different hiking shoes, so you can take your own warm shoes with you.
We live comfortably in the Pyhä area in our own big cabin. You can choose either a single or double room. Our own chef prepares the food for us.
Travel program.
Day 1. Arrival at Pyhä. Familiarization with sliding snowshoes and the week's program.
Day 2. To Pyhälammi's day shelter, following Pyhäjoki for part of the journey. About 10 km. Getting used to the snowshoes, we do a trip of about 8 km.
Day 3. Aapasuo area south of Pyhätunturi. About 11 km.
Day 4. Huttutunturi. Through Huttuloma's shelter. About 10 km.
Day 5. Around Soutajatunturi. About 11 km.
Day 6. Keski-Luosto fell. About 10 km.
Day 7. Journey home.

Travel to the nearest train or bus station, where we will pick you up. When traveling by train and bus, you can see more of the destination country. You can easily get to this excursion by train to Rovaniemi from Helsinki and from there by bus to Pyhä.
