Svalbard.

Our route follows the northern coast of the Isfjorden fjord, which cuts through the scenic Spitsbergen island.

Isfjorden is the second longest fjord in Norway's Svalbard. It starts on the west coast of the island of Spitsbergen, and its branches extend far into the northeastern parts of the island. The northern coast of the fjord, where we paddle, is part of the "Nordre Isfjorden" national park.

Our trip starts at the western end of Isfjorden at the tip of the Daudmannsodden promontory. The expedition team, kayaks and equipment are transferred from Longyearbyen to our starting point by boat transport.  We paddle in the landscapes of the mountains and their surrounding plains, bird nesting cliffs, and the arctic vegetation zone. We pass two large glaciers descending into the fjord (Wahlenbergbree and Sveabree glaciers). Our kayak expedition trip ends near Kapp Thordsen cape.

During the Arctic summer the sun never sets. With the nesting season of seabirds, we need to move without attracting too much attention - a touch of luck is needed, and we will get to see not only seabirds, but also sea and land mammals.

Our responsible guide is Calle Schönning, Arctic Nature Guide (UNIS, Svalbard), who has lived in Svalbard for nine years. He has guided numerous kayaking, skiing and hiking trips around the Arctic.
